Ever since I learned how to bake I tried to make the best of it. It wasn’t easy at first, but when I began to understand a few things and learned how to be patient, it all went well. Well, almost, some of the cakes I baked were delicious, others turned out disgusting.
I always search for new recipes. When I find one that doesn’t keep me on the toilet all day long, I save it in my personal cookbook and bake it again some other time. If for some reason something goes wrong, I’ll probably never bake it again.
One of the recipes I stumbled uppon lately is a realy easy to bake.. cake. It’s an actual cake, with layers and cream and everything. It’s perfect for a special occasion when there isn’t much time to make everything (like the holidays, when usually the kitchen is already full, a cake that requires hours to bake is just what’s missing from the picture).
This simple cake requires about half an hour to bake and then the decorating takes.. as much as you need.
Ingredients used for the cake layers:
6 spoons of sugar
6 spoons of flour
First, separate the yolks from the whites and beat the whites into a thick foam.
Second step: mix the yolks with sugar with the kitchen mixer until you get a thick cream.
Third step: add the egg whites foam into the yolk cream an mix by hand.
Forth step: add the flour and mix well
It doesn’t take more than 10 minutes to have the dough ready.
After the mix is smooth, use the oven tray to bake it: place baking paper on the tray and pour the dough. Bake for 10-15 minutes at low heat, until you see it changes it’s color into a dark yellow.
In the meantime, you can prepare the chocolate cream:
1 cup of sugar
1 cup of milk
4 spoons of flour
4 spoons of cocoa
7 oz. of butter (about 200 grams)
First: mix all of these ingredients, except for the butter, in a pot and then steam cook it. Mix the cream at all time so it won’t stick to the bottom of your pot. Mix continuously until the cream thickens.
Second step: let it cool
Third step: mix the butter alone for a bit and then add the cocoa cream cooled earlier and mix your cream.
Also, while the cream cools, you can prepare a sweet syrup, by mixing half of glass of water with a few spoons of sugar and the add some aromas (rum, vanilla, your choice). Use this sirup to brush the cake layers for moisture.
Now, you can assembly your cake and decorate it however you like. I cut the dough in 3, this way I had a 3 layer cake. I brushed all of them with syrup and add cream between them.
You can also add whipped cream, decorate with fruit or whatever you find suitable.
