My top 10 pics for 2011

This year we traveled a lot. Spent 6 months in the US (New York City), visited Georgia, Alabama and Florida, spent 1 month already in Spain on Costa del Sol. Only 5 months were spent at home in Romania, so it was a great year for both of us, since we really love seeing as much of the world as possible.

My Nikon 5100 was a faithful companion all these months and helped me take some nice pictures. They’re far from being as good as the professional photographers take their pics, but good enough for keeping some amazing memories.

First pic is from the HUGE Georgia Aquarium, the biggest in the world. In 2010 we visited it for the first time and, even if the ticket prices are pretty steep, we chose to visit it this year too. We’re in the Ocean Voyager area, where everybody can spend time looking at all those amazing sea creatures. Our friend took his 5 year old daughter there and she was having the time of her life.

Instead of spending money to see again Cyclorama, the Coca Cola Museum or Stone Mountain Park, we decided to make a trip down south. Our friends from Alabama told us Savannah is really worth seeing, so we spent few hours there. It was amazing. We really loved the old historical area with the huge parks and the Spanish Moss hanging from the trees.

Since we were in the South, our Alabama friends told us we’d better visit them and then spend a weekend in Florida, at Panama City Beach, just as we did one year before. 1 hour before we had to get into the cars to drive to Florida, our friend took us to see one of their big parks in Montgomery. Lovely place.

This is a pic taken from Top of the Rock. New York City is a city I really hated at first (being used to the clean cities in Europe: Berlin, Wien etc.), but came to love and discover step by step. While the view from Rockefeller Center is not as amazing as the one from the Empire State Building, you can clearly see Central Park and the Northern Manhattan.

Manhattan again, this time from Brooklyn Heights. It’s been one of my favorite places to see this year, since it allowed me to see Manhattan in all its glory.

This is Timisoara, the city I live in. The Opera (the white building at the back) and the place where our Revolution against Comunism started in 1989.

I spent most of the time in Romania working and being with the family, but made a road trip one day and visited few places I never seen or visited when I was way younger.

These are some hills photographed in the morning. We stopped few times on the road so that I can take more pics.

Hunedoara is the city I never visited before. It’s not a big one and it’s been hit bad by the recession since their industry is almost gone. But they do have a Medieval castle that’s worth visiting.

We’ve been in Spain for the past 3 weeks. It’s amazing: warm weather, lots of sun. We visited Puerto Banus 2 weeks ago and took some pics. This one speaks a lot of their amazing climate here on Costa del Sol.

So, this is my 2011 in pics. Lots of amazing places and people we’ve met. I just hope in 12 months we’ll have as many amazing memories, something I wish you too.

Have a great year and do travel 🙂

  1. I hope all goes well today with your eye surgery. My mom did well. Removed a mass, but it’s only stage 2 cancer, so with chemo, the doc thinks she’ll do well. She’s 84, but in good health and exercises and walks every morning. The surgeon was apprehensive about her age, but when he asked he how long she walked before getting tired, she said a little over a mile, he smiled and said she’d do fine.

Ramo, I really enjoyed your wonderful pics and writing. Found a great camera for you, the Nikon D800. AMAZING capabilities. Looks like a typical camera, but check out this video made with it: https://vimeo.com/36326055

Thanks again for you help. Please take your time recuperating , we can start on the site anytime. Let me know if there’s anything I can start doing.

  2. Interesting…

Timisoara, your home town – nicknamed “Little Vienna” (according to its Wikipedia entry). I have never been there, but from pictures I can see some similarities in architectural features

Do you know how it got its nickname? I ask because I live in (or very nearby) real (= big) Vienna 🙂
